Rule of Law Publishing

Our mission

Rule of Law Publishing was founded to help nations around the world publish accurate and up-to-date legal information in order to develop and sustain the rule of law.

Legal systems work well if citizens and legal communities have accurate and updated access to their own legislation, court decisions and legal analysis. However, if you don't know what the law is or can't find it, how can you understand it, interpret it or comply with it?

The notion of the "rule of law" - justice, equality, fairness and transparency for all - is hard to achieve if laws aren't readily available. The fabric of any healthy legal ecosystem is built on easy access to legal information.

Many developing nations lack the necessary infrastructure, resources or know-how to publish comprehensive and accurate versions of their own legislation and case law.

Our mission is to change this by working with legal communities where needed to establish local publishing solutions that ensure citizens, lawyers, courts and governments anywhere have easy access to the the laws that underpin the future viability and prosperity of their communities.

Current Projects

Sierra Leone Law Reports

Sierra Leone's legal system is based on the common law, having gained independence from Britain in 1961. Access to key decisions of the Sierra Leone courts is critical.

We are working with Sierra Leone's legal profession to publish a comprehensive set of case law from 1961 to the present, with the aim of establishing a permanent law reporting system in Sierra Leone.
